What type of tire rack is best suited for warehouse storage?

Choosing the right tire rack can optimize space, improve safety, and boost warehouse efficiency. But which type is most suited for your storage needs?

A modular stack rack, known for its high adaptability and load capacity, is often the best choice for warehouse tire storage. Its flexible design and strong support structure meet the needs of various tire sizes and weights.

Modular tire rack in warehouse

A while ago, I designed a tire storage solution for a tire storage center in Tennessee. Their warehouse was originally cluttered with tires stacked on the ground, which took a long time to find the required tires during turnover, and involved manual handling, wasting manpower and resources. The upper space in the warehouse was also not being used well. Later, they came to me, and I introduced them to a tube-type tire stacking rack, which can stack up to 5 layers high during loading, reducing the waste of upper space. When used with a forklift, it saves time and effort and is very easy to use.

The right tire storage solution should match your tire structure, maximize space use, and ensure safety under load. Experience from multiple clients confirms that stack racks with modular designs offer excellent flexibility and stability.

How to organize a tire warehouse effectively?

Organizing a tire warehouse requires careful planning to improve efficiency and safety. First, allocate specific zones for different tire types based on usage or size, such as passenger tires versus truck tires. Label each zone clearly.

Next, utilize modular stack racks to store tires vertically, stacking up to five layers to save floor space.

Finally, implement traceability with QR codes on each rack column. Label batches, expiry dates, and positions. This way, you can follow FIFO (First-In-First-Out) principles to reduce stock aging and simplify inventory management.

By dividing storage zones, adopting efficient stacking methods, and tracking inventory systematically, you'll boost turnaround times and minimize unnecessary labor.

What’s the maximum load capacity per rack level?

The load capacity of a tire rack depends on its material and design specifications. For cold-rolled steel stack racks, typical models support around 1,000 kg per level. Reinforced versions, with thicker columns, can handle up to 1,500 kg per level comfortably.

This capacity easily covers the weight of most passenger and truck tires, which generally weigh between 10-40 kg, depending on size and type. For example, in recent client cases, the reinforced racks safely supported five-layer stacking, maximizing vertical space without risking structural failure.

Rack Type Material & Design Max Load Capacity per Level Suitable For
Standard Stack Rack Cold-rolled steel, normal thickness 1,000 kg Passenger tires, smaller truck tires
Reinforced Stack Rack Thicker steel, enhanced structure 1,500 kg Heavy truck tires, large industrial tires

Always ensure your racks' load capacity aligns with your tire types and stacking height to avoid overloading and ensure safety.

In my experience, selecting racks with sufficient strength and planning storage zones carefully makes tire management safer and more efficient, saving time and manpower in the long run.
